Vance VanTassell, MD

Emergency Medicine

Dr. VanTassell decided to enter the medical profession when he was 16 years old, based on his enjoyment working in the Emergency Room as an orderly. He is a graduate of UC Davis and went to Oral Robert’s University School of Medicine. He returned to the ER, his “first love” when he entered the Emergency Medicine Residency program at Maricopa Medical Center in Arizona where he was honored to be chosen as Chief Resident and voted Outstanding Senior resident by the faculty. Dr. VanTassell is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine.

Dr. VanTassell served as Clinical Instructor in Emergency Medicine for the UC Davis Emergency Medicine residency training program. While training residents he was honored with the Resident’s Teaching Award. In August of 1994 Dr. VanTassell was driving home after a night shift at the ER, he stopped at the side of the rode to assist a car wreck victim. He made the local news after performing an emergency cricothyrotomy on the trapped victim. It was a miracle that the victim survived and they have stayed in contact for years afterwards.

After 23 years in the ER, Dr. VanTassell joined Turnure Medical Group to start an Urgent Care. The VanTassell’s and Turnure’s have known each other since Dr. Turnure was in medical school, so working together seemed like a natural transition. His addition to the group continues to expand the group’s commitment to serving the community with excellent patient care now available after hours. He is passionate about helping patients those and he loves to teach the staff new things about Emergency Medicine.

Dr. VanTassell is married to Candice and they have 4 grown children and several grandchildren. He and his family enjoy the awesome beauty of Yosemite, Tahoe and the Mendocino Coast. They seem to be dog magnets and regularly have up to 5 pooches tearing up their yard. Their strong faith in God and involvement in their church has always been foundational in their lives.
